A. Answer the following questions
1. 'Then I made a mistake" -------- i) Who said this ? ii) What mistake is referred to here ? iii) In what context has the speaker said this ?
Ans: i) The author Ruskin Bond Of the story entitled " The Eyes Have It" has said the above mentioned line in the question in soliloquy
ii)The author asked a question to the girl co- passenger what it was like outside.This is the mistake which is referred to here.
iii) The narrator wanted to hide his blindness from the girl.But in his mistake the author asked a question to the girl.The author thougt that his mistake may bring out his blindness to the girl easily. In that context, the author has said this.
2. "Why don't you look out of the window?" - ------- i)Where has the line been taken from? ii) Who said this and to whom? iii) How did the person spoken to react? 1+2+3=6
Ans : i) The line has been taken from the romantic short story " The Eyes Have It' written by Rusk9in Bond
ii) The narrator's blind co-passenger girl said this to the narrator in the story entitled "The Eyes Have It"
iii) When the narrator heard this query, he moved easily along the berth and felt for the window ledge. He faced the open window. Ans: i) 'She is here the girl whom the narrator met during the train journey.
ii) The blind narrator was called the' gallant young man" iii) The narrator became quite daring to find out about the girl's looks, and remarked that she had an interesting face. The girl was amused and told that she was tired of hearing from people that she had a pretty face . Instantly the narrator told her that interesting face could also be pretty. At this the girl called him a gallant young man .
iv) The other word was 'serious ' that was used by the girl to describe the young man.

Ans : (i) In the short story "The Eyes Have It " the narrator Ruskin Bond himself is referred to here as 'I" (ii) The speaker moved along the berth because he made a pretence of studying the landscape. Ans : (i) * The narrator Ruskin Bond of the story entitled "The Eyes Have It" said this to his girl co-passenger in the train compartment.
(ii) The speaker was fully blind, so he did not know how was the face of the girl co passenger.On that ground, it was a risk to use the term "beautiful'.So he chose the more safe word 'interesting' because an interesting face could also be a pretty face.

Ans : (i) The narrator Ruskin Bond of the story entitled" The Eyes Have It" is the speaker here. (ii) The perfume still lingered where the girl had stood.
(iii) The perfume from the girl's hair was tantalizing the narrator . The narrator wanted to raise his hand and touch her hair but the girl moved away.
7. 'Didn't you notice? " Where has the line been taken from ? Who said this and to whom ? What did the speaker ask to notice? In what context did the speaker say this ?
Ans; ( i) The line has been taken from the short story" The Eyes have It" written by Ruskin Bond. (ii) The narrator's male co-passenger said this to the narrator. (iii) The speaker asked to notice the girl's eyes which were beautiful but she was completely blind. (iii) The narrator asked the male co-passenger if the girl kept the hair ling or short.But the male co-passenger replied that he noticed her eyes only.She had beautiful eyes but it was not use to her because she was completely blind. In this context the speaker said the above mentioned line.
